Essential Oil of the Week: Sage

The Essential Oil of the Week is one that isn't common.  In fact some essential oils companies don't carry it at all.  Friends I would like you to meet Sage.
Latin name: Salvia officinalis

Sage Essential Oil can often be labeled as Salvia.  Sage Essential Oil is different from Clary Sage.  They come from different plants and have very different purposes.  The Latin name for Sage means "save" or "to heal".  The Lakota Indians and the Romans considered sage as the "master healer".

Sage has a very high spiritual vibration.  It help increase longevity and brings strength to our body.  It is a good oil for alleviating the effects of prolonged stress on the body and mind.  Sage is amazing in the aspect that it can clear our energy and strengthen it's ability to protect us from negative things.  Sage can bring clarity and vision to us if we will just allow ourselves the time to find it.

Sage gives strength to the vital centers of the body and strengthens the pelvic chakras and the organs in it.  Sage is helpful for any distrubances related to nerve deterioration or prolonged nervous stress.  Sage is great for lymph congestion as well.  It can clear away cellular debris and strengthens cell wall integrity.  Sage is very useful for arthiritis, dandruff, hair loss, skin conditions, gingivitis, sprains, and firming tissues.

It is also good for addictions, anemia, bitterness, bladder infections, circulation, decongestant, coughing, cramps, frost bite, gingivitis, hormone balance, temptations, tired tonsils, tooth infection, uterus deficiency, and varicose veins.

When I first entered the world of essential oils I started using Sage for my depression and anxiety (most of which come from stress).  It was amazing.  I could feel myself going down.  I would put 2 drops of sage on my hands, rub it on my chest and back of my neck and be functioning and fine in a few minutes.  It is also helpful for stress, negative thoughts, over sensitivity, being over worked, ego, pride and jealousy and helps you to focus.  I've since started adding a drop of benzoin and a drop of frankincense when I'm feeling super stressed.  The combination seems to help even more.

Sage is oils a good oil to use with congestion and stagnation in the lungs.  You can mix it with warm wheat germ oil and massage it into the upper back and chest.

Another thing that is pretty amazing about Sage is that it can stop bleeding.  I have a friend who hadn't purchased Yarrow (the best oil to use to stop bleeding in my opinion) yet but had sage.  Her son was running to catch the bus and tripped on the curb and smacked his head on the bus steps.  He split his lip open right under his nose.  She actually had sage in her pocket and dumped it on his lip.  It sealed the wound shut and stopped the bleeding.  She went to the doctor and he didn't even have to have 1 stitch.  The doctors couldn't figure it out because the cut went all the way through his lip.  She applied oils 4 times a day to it to help it heal and he has only a minor scar.

Properties:  anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antidepressant, stimulant, tonic, calative, anti-infectious, antiseptic, nervine, antibacterial, anticancerous, immune stimlant, has estrogen-like properties

Sage is a Top Note

DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY (dries up breast milk)

It is suggested that Sage essential oil should be avoided when you are feeling angry.  The reason for this is because it gives you energy during bouts of anger it can give energy to the anger (making it worse) and cause your blood pressure to rise.  All things we don't want.

Essential Oil of the Week: Lavender

I'm going to start highlighting single Essential Oils once a week.  Seeing as there are over 200 single oils to choose from I think one a week will be good to start with.  This week I'm going to talk about Lavender.

Lavender is my go to oil.  I carry it with me everywhere I go.  If I'm in a crunch and can't think of what Essential Oil to use I grab my lavender.  It is safe to use on kids, pregnant women, and the elderly (all groups of people where Essential Oils should be used with caution).  First some background information about Lavender.  A chemist named Gattefossé discovered after severly burning his hand in his lab that lavender essential oil was a wonderful healer of burns.  He couldn't find water anywhere after he burned his arm and just dunked his arm in Lavender essential oil.  His arm healed and he was left with no scars.  A few weeks ago my mom burnt her finger (right by the nail bed) on a hot glue gun.  She had kept ice on it for a few hours and it was still just as painful as before.  I headed over to her house and found her attempting to open a bottle with one hand.  I told her to go put some lavender on the burn.  A few minutes later the burning sensation was gone and within a day the burn itself was completely gone and didn't blister at all.  Lavender has the ability to speed up cell growth and therefore reduces scaring and helps cuts, scrapes and all types of wounds.  Lavender help bring balance between masculine and feminine energies and also balances our body during physical and emotional stresses.   Lavender can be helpful for dermatitis, eczema and sunburns.
A few weeks ago the weather was warm for utah so I sent the kids out to play.  J was in short sleeves and his forearms got a little red.  I mixed some witch hazel water with some lavender and sprayed on his arms and within a few hours the redness was gone and he was perfectly happy.  I've done it a couple times on myself and works great.  I've also used it for bug bites.  When the weather was warm the misquitos came out in full force.  Literally in 1 day I got bit 14 times!  I lathered myself in lavender and the itching stopped.

Some other things Lavender can help with is Allergies, chapped lips, bruises, dandruff, depression, digestion problems, eczema, edema, flu, headaches, insomnia, motion sickness, muscle strains, nose bleeds, pain, panic, parasites, psoriasis, anxiety, sinusitis thrush and stress.

I add a few drops of Lavender to my wash to help freshen my laundry as well.  Lavender is also an immune stimulant as well as a nervous system relaxant.

Always remember that Lavender in small doses can be relaxing and in large doses can be stimulating.  We put lavender on our boys feet and chest before they go to bed.  One night J didn't want to sleep so every time he got out of bed the hubs put Lavender on him.  He got so frustrated and called me and said "I have no idea what I'm doing wrong!?  I've put 2 drops of lavender on him like 5 times!"  I just about died laughing.  J ended up staying up until 3 am.  Needless to say we learned a lesson there.

Lavender Essential Oil is a mild oil and can often be applied Neat (without a carrier oil) to the skin however everyone reacts differently to every oil.  My children can handle Lavender neat but I have a client (in her 30's) who can't.  The best area of application for Lavender is either directly on the place you are hoping to help or your feet.  However if you are wanting the effects to help with emotional or mental disturbances I would put it on my chest and spine.  Inhaling the Essential Oil will help quicker than simply applying them to the feet.

Lavender is a Middle Note Essential Oil

Properties:  antiseptic, diuretic, expectorant, emmenagogue, anti parasitic, sedative, anti-inflammatory

Diaper Rash Cream

So I have this friend who has 2 sons under 2... ya she's pretty crazy and amazing all at the same time.  She is also my go to family photographer (check out her work here and find here on Facebook here).  Well said friend (Kati) text me a few days ago and said "miracle essential oil cure for..."  I gave her my suggestions and we talked.  Her 23 month old had Norovirus.  Because of this lovely virus he got a nasty diaper rash.  She text me and asked for another miracle fix.  I suggested my home made diaper rash cream.

I have struggled with a diaper rash with J for a long time. Because of his food allergies any time he eats anything with dairy or soy it turns into an immediate diaper rash. I've had countless people give me recommendations but my grandmother told me to try corn starch and olive oil. It helped but didn't get rid of it all together. That's when I had a thought... ADD OILS!!! haha!

Some Essential Oils that help with diaper rash: Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Tea Tree, Niauli, Yarrow. You can put them in St. John's Wort carrier oil and rub directly on rash however I found something that works great for us.

Here is my recipe for my homemade diaper rash cream. I kid you not within 24 hours of application all rashes are gone or dramatically better (yes even rashes that come as a result from antibiotics).

Ingredients
Corn Starch
Olive oil
Lavender Essential Oil
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil (or Yarrow Essential Oil)

Directions
Combine enough corn starch and Olive Oil to make a paste. I usually make a large batch so it's about 1/2 cup corn starch and I eye ball the Olive Oil. Add 6 drops of Roman Chamomile and 10 drops of Lavender. Mix it together and put it in a container. I actually put it in an oil aquaphor tube I cleaned out so that I can mix it before using it. The Corn Starch and Olive Oil can separate Mix before apply. Also you can substitute the Roman Chamomile for Yarrow. I've found it to work equally as well.

Essential Oils and Pregnancy

So the last post I talked about Essential Oils and Children.  I said I was extra cautious what oils I used on my kids the same will be true when I get pregnant again.  There are some GREAT Essential Oils to help during your pregnancy but there are also some that if you use them at the wrong time it could be harmful.

Note: I was not introduced to Essential Oils with my pregnancies.  My first was very emotional and therefor resulted in my second being the same.  I was on bed rest for nearly 3/4 of my pregnancy with J because of early labor.  I wish now I would have known what I do.  Maybe I could have saved myself some unneeded stress and pain.

Marjoram, Pimento Berry, Cistus, Hops, Valerian, Black Pepper, Peppermint, Mace, Parsley Seed, Wintergreen, Birch, Evening Primrose Carrier Oil

There are so Essential Oils that can help the beginning and end of pregnancy.  I do advice everyone that asks to be extra careful the through your 3rd trimester.

Morning Sickness:  Eucalyptus, Ginger, Peppermint.
Peppermint Honey Water: 1 drop of Peppermint, 8 ounces water, 1/2 teas raw honey.  Drink first thing in the morning.
You can also try 3 drops Eucalyptus, 3 drops Lavender.  Add to bowl of water and leave on counter.  It is relaxing and uplifting.

Stretch Marks: St. John's Wart, carrot seed, Neroli, Vetiver, Lemon Verbena, Hazelnut, Rosewood, Rose, Geranium, Lavender, Cypress
To Prevent or reduce: 1 Tablespoon St. Johns Wart carrier oil mixed with 2 drops carrot seed oil, 2 drops Neroli, 1 drop Vetiver, 1 drop Lemon Verbena.  Apply morning and night.

Start Labor: Aniseed, Clary Sage, Cypres, Fennel, Spikenard (this oil breaks the water, don't use it if you don't want your water broken yet), Rosemary (herb, induces labor).  Rub Cypress and Fennel on stomach

During Labor: Anisee, Jasmine, Fennel, Evening Primrose
Use in St. Johns Wart on the belly.  Apply oils for pain every 1/2 an hour but only put it on the belly once.  The rest of the time apply to the ankles.  Evening Primrose on cervix relaxes it.
Clary Sage will assist the uterus in effective contractions without artificially strengthening the uterus.  Can Relieve anxiety and is calming on the nervous system.  Good mixed with Rose, Lavender, or Geranium.  Rose will relax the uterus between contractions.  Also has been known to relax the pelvic floor helping to open up the pelvis.  Put one drop in tub and soak. Spikenard for pain after labor starts.  Valerian, Wild Yam, Black Pepper, Birch, Fennel are also good for pain and emotional help.

Back Pain: Marjoram, Rosemary
Add 5 drops of each into bath (use an emulsifier-raw honey, Epsom salt) and soak.

Add 1 drop to honey water.  Especially great at night.

Early Labor: Lavender

For Nursing Mother: Promote Lactation:  Fennel, Geranium, Lemongrass, Carrot seed, Clary Sage, Dill weed, Jasmine (smell), Rose (Turkish), Lemon Verbena (pure-smell).

Bleeding Nipples:  St. Johns wart carrier, Calendula carrier, Carrot Seed, Chamomile, Geranium, Niauli.  Best one to start with is Niauli.
Mastitis/Infection:  Immortelle (Helichrysum), Chamomile and Black pepper compress.  Place hands in warm water with Roman Chamomile, Immortelle (Helichrysum) or Sage (will slow down milk production temporarily but is good to help with inflammation).  Massage breast with St. John's carrier.
Stop Milk Production:  Marjoram, Peppermint, Sage

After Delivery: Lavender, Bergamot, Neroli, Frankincense, Immortelle (Helichrysum)

As Always if you have any health conditions please consult a certified aromatherapist or an expert of Essential Oils.  I truly believe there is a place for both Eastern and Western Medicine in this world... The key is to find balance.

Essential Oils and Children

I'm a mother of 2 amazing little boys.

and J and 23 months.
Photography by Kati Ann Photography

They are a handful at times but I love being a mother.  When I was first introduced to Essential Oils and foot zoning I was hesitant to use anything on my kids.  I'm SUPER paranoid when it comes to my kids.  It's only gotten worse since I became aware of their food sensitivities.  I have SO many people that will ask me "Is this an ok oil to use on my baby."  So I decided there needed to be more information out there.

The first thing you need to know is NEVER use an essential oil "neat" on your child.  What "neat" means is that the Essential oil is not being diluted by anything.  That means you ALWAYS want to use a carrier oil with babies and children.  Like any rule there are exceptions.  But I always err on the side of caution when it comes to my kids.
source

Here is a list of oils that should NEVER be used on children... EVER!!!!
Camphor, Nutmeg, Tansy (of any kind), Tarragon, Bay leaf, Cinnamon, Hyssop, Juniper

EDIT:  I was asked by a friend if I use a special blend used to "support healthy immune function" on my children.  The answer to that is NO.  While many people feel it is safe to use on children it does contain Cinnamon and there for I do not use it on my children (under 3).  However if I feel that J needs the benefits of that particular oil blend I will apply it to myself and snuggle with him.

These are very strong oils and would not be comfortable for the child.  Blends that contains these oils should be avoided or used with extreme caution.  The last thing you would want is for your child to become uncomfortable from an oil that their body just can't process correctly yet.

Here is a list of essential oils that should NEVER be applied neat to your child.
Aniseed, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Tea Tree, Niauli, Melaleuca, All Mints (Spearmint, Peppermint, Wintergreen), Clove, Basil, Bergamot, Birch, Ginger, All Citrus Oils (Lime, Lemon, Grapefruit, Orange), Lemongrass, Oregano, Pine, All Fir (Siberian, Balsam, Silver), and Thyme

These oils are considered "hot".  By that it means that the oil can burn, sting, cause skin irritation, or discomfort.  If any of these oils when applied in a diluted state cause any skin irritation, burning sensation immediately apply a vegetable based carrier oil such as Jojoba Oil.  DO NOT rinse the area with water.  Water will only amplify the effects of the oil.

Also remember that when using Essential Oils with children you do not need more than 1 or 2 drops of any given oil at a time.  As equally as important please remember that you should not use more than 2 or 3 essential oils with in a 2 to 3 hour window of time.  The ONLY exception is in acute situations.

Here are some common health conditions the occur often in children and the Essential Oils that I would recommend using.

Cold's and Coughs: Eucalyptus, Lavender, Frankincense, Tea Tree
Only apply 1 oil at a time (in a carrier oil) to the feet and back.  If the coughing doesn't ease up you can apply 1 drop of lavender oil (in a carrier oil) to the chest.

Colic:  Spearmint, Dill Weed, Fennel, Peppermint, Chamomile and Lavender.  Massage these on the babies belly in St. John's Wort carrier oil.

Cradle Cap:  Lavender, Tea Tree, Niauli.  Best used with Almond Oil

Diaper Rash:  Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Tea Tree, Niauli, Yarrow.  Put in St. John's Wort carrier oil and rub directly on rash. ADD OILS!!! haha!
So here is my recipe for my homemade diaper rash cream.
Ingredients
Corn Starch

Fever:  Sandalwood, Dill weed, Rose (kills virus and slows fever), Queen of the Meadow, Carrot Seed, Yarrow, Eucalyptus, Black Pepper, Peppermint (helps cool the body), Fennel (helps clean out the digestive system), Niauli (helps kill infections), Cajeput, Sage, Bergamot, Chamomile, Lavender, Ravensara, Rosemary, Violet.
Never use more than 1 or 2 drops at a time, so in acute situations (high fever) rotate through this list of oils every 30-45 minutes until the fever reduces.  Always remember to use a carrier oil.  Apply oils to feet and spine.
Also you can mix Eucalyptus with water and put on the ankle.

Sleeplessness:  Lavender, Marjoram, Chamomile, Frankincense, Vetiver, Valerian.
These are good oils to add to a bath before bed.  Always make sure you use an emulsifier (raw honey, Epsom salt, sea salt, bath soap, powdered milk) and on small children don't use more than 2-3 drops of oils combined.  I like 2 drops of lavender and 1 drop of Marjoram for my boys.

Thrush:  Chamomile, Niauli, Patchouli, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Melissa, Lavender, Manuka.  Dilute 1-2 drops  of an oil and apply a small amount to the location (either the mothers breast or the child's mouth).  Remember with nursing mother thrush can (and most likely will be) passed back and forth from mother to baby.  I would recommend putting a small amount in the babies mouth and a small amount on your breast.   Apply before nursing.

Teething: Roman Chamomile, Spearmint, Immortelle, Black Pepper.  Use in St. John's Wort or Sweet Almond Carrier Oil and rub directly onto the gums.

Each condition has listed multiple oils.  Please do not use all of the oils listed at the same time.  Rotate through the oils.  In acute situations apply Essential Oils every 30-45 minutes.  Other than that every 3-4 hours.

As always any situation can be aided through Foot Zoning.  By being Foot Zoned when you are ill it allows your body to heal itself and reduces the duration of the condition.  I can not tell you the number of times I've felt like I was getting a cold and after completing a zoning session on myself I feel 10 times better and usually don't end up getting sick.  Foot Zoning will bring the body back into balance and correct the problems.

These are just a few conditions that are common in small children and babies.  If there is anything else you would like more information on feel free to contact me at innersoles01(at)gmail(dot)com.

Please remember if your child has any special health situations please speak with a specialist of essential oils before applying anything.

Just a side note.... I am giving away a free Foot Zone.  When my Facebook Page Inner Soles gets to 100 likes I will be giving a free zone!  That is a $45 value!  So go like Inner Soles on Facebook!

The Spiritual Properties

All Essential Oils have many different properties.  Last post we discussed some physical benefits.  However there are also Emotional/Mental and Spiritual properties.  Today we're going to go into a little more depth with some Essential Oils and the spiritual traits they hold.

Angelica Root-

Angelica archangelica

In Germany it is called the Oil of Angels. Archangelica comes from the Greek word "arkhangelos" (=arch-angel), due to the myth that it was the archangel Michael who told of its use as medicine.source  Because it has a very high vibration it helps to bring in more light in order to aid you in seeing your inner vision.  It also has the ability to bring the darkness within each of us to the surface so that it can be released.  This Essential Oil brings abundance, strength, and comfort.  It also helps you to see what stands between you and God and helps you to come more Christ minded.  Angelica Root has the ability to weaken the power of traumatic memories and is a great tool to use with trauma therapy.  It can minimize the emotional problems that come as a result of traumatic experiences.  This Essential Oil can reconnect the connection band (Pituitary, Thalmus, Hypothalmus, Pineal glands) in the brain.
AVOID IF PREGNANT OR DIABETIC

Hyssop-
Hussopus off.decumbens
The Essential Oil Hyssop is a great oil for depression.  It is very uplifting and provieds direction and helps you to see the path you should travel in life.  It also helps you to be more organized and have better concentration.  Hyssop brings inspiration, wisdom, and lifts you to a higher awaremess.  It aids in getting rid of guilt and fear.  This Essential Oil can remove negativity.  It is a great oil for those who suffer from anxiety.

DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY OR IF PRONE TO SEIZURES

Sage-

Salvia Officinalis
The Latin name for sage means to "save" or "to heal".  Sage has a very high spiritual vibration.  That right there brings peace to my soul.  It helps to increase longevity and brings strength to the body.  It also helps increase your understanding and helps you gain more wisdom.  This oil is good to help your ego, pride, and jealousy issues.  Sage helps with conflicts with children.  It helps with those who are over sensitive, overworked, and tired. This oil also helps to protect from evil spirits. However people with a bad temper should avoid using this oil.
DO NOT USE DURING PREGNANCY OR WHILE NURSING.  Dries up breast milk

Immortelle-
Helichrysum italicum
Immortelle (also known as Helichrysum or Italian Everlasting) gives us a more balanced perspective.  This is a good oil to use for emotional healing.  It helps release defense mechanisms and offers comfort during the processing of difficult emotions.  This awesome oil promotes an acceptance of the changes that happen within after we process and deal with difficult emotions.  Immortelle can also give you the needed self-confidence to make hard decisions.  It gives us the ability to endure problems in a more positive way until the problem is taken care of.  Immortelle helps you to stop worry about the past (even if the worries are subconscious worries)-use with Angelica Root for this purpose.

Each and everyone of these oils also has benefits for our physical body.  They are equally as amazing as the spiritual and mental properties.  Remember that 1-2 drops of these oils is enough to help with anything.  As always, simply add them to a carrier oil (avocado, almond, grape seed) so that they cover the desired area.  If you are unsure of where to apply the oils your feet is ALWAYS your best bet.  Remember that if you have a health problem or you are pregnant you should also consult an aromatherapist before using any oil.  There are some oils that should not ever be used on pregnant women.  Be sure to educate yourself about the oils you are wanting to sue before you use them.

If you have any questions about these essential oils and their uses and purpose feel free to contact me at innersoles01@gmail.com, day or night.  I'll respond as soon as I can.  You can also contact me if you have any questions with regards to Foot Zoning or any other Essential Oils.

All that nastiness that is the Flu

The flu
source
It's nasty and it's coming to a body near you!  BAHAHA!  We are a crack up aren't we!  Any way.  We all do everything we can to help keep our family from getting sick during this time of year.  However sometimes it seems no matter our efforts they can still catch some nasty cold or even worse the flu.  The flu, it's really not fun and seems like this time of year at least one person you know has it.  However you don't have to get it.  There are Essential Oils you can use to a) protect your family from the virus and b) reduce the symptoms and duration of the virus.

The most common symptoms are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, headache (often severe), coughing, weakness/fatigue and general discomfort.[1] Although it is often confused with other influenza-like illnesses, especially the common cold, influenza is a more severe disease caused by a different type of virus. source

Some of the best oils to use for the flu are...
Cinnamon, Thyme, Oregano, and Clove.  These are all considered HOT oils and should be used with a carrier oil.  They have the ability to kill bacteria and viruses.  When in an acute condition (ie the flu) you can apply these oils, diluted with carrier oil, to your feet every 30 minutes.

cinnamon bark
Oregano
Thyme
Clove

Some other oils that are good to use are Lavender, Grapefruit, Angelica Root, Mountain Pine, Rose Geranium, Ravensara, Eucalyptus, Black Pepper, and Bay Leaf.

If you have stomach problems that come along with the other flu symptoms the best oils to use would be Peppermint and Yarrow.
Peppermint
Yarrow

For Muscle aches and pains the oils you want to go to first would be Black Pepper and Marjoram, Bay Leaf, Eucalyptus, and Cinnamon.

You can also use Aloevera Juice, Chamomile Tea, or Peppermint tea to help calm your aching stomach.

As always with the Flu remember to stay hydrated as much as possible.  Stay away from food unless you are consuming fresh juices.  Processed foods are only going to feed the virus and allow it to stay active in your body longer.

It is also a good idea to have a Foot Zone performed as the Zoning will correct your body to it's true form and help remove the virus and toxins more quickly.

As always.  If you have any questions feel free to email us day or night.  innersoles01@gmail.com

Why we use Essential Oils

Why do we use Essential Oils?

Essential oils are unique in the fact that they carry a distinct scent, or essence specific for each individual plant.  Essential oils aid our body in healing, fighting diseases and strengthening our emotional, mental, and spiritual centers.  Essential oils also last a very long time.  Most have a "shelf life" of 10-50 years.  We use Essential Oils after completetion of a zone to better aid the body in returning to it's true and perfect state.

Have you ever heard of Aromatherapy?  No, yes, well now you have and now you get to learn more about it.  How exciting for you!
Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. source

There are many places to apply essential oils to the skin.  If you are unsure of where to apply the oils the best place is your feet.  Within 22 minutes of application the oils is absorbed into the bloodstream and is working in full force.

When you first begin in this "new world" of essential oils it can all be very overwhelming.  There are so many different oils and each oil has many different benefits, not all of which are stirctly physical.  They also have spiritual and emotionl properties too. There are some good starter oils that we would recommend.

Lavender
Lavender oils is extracted from the panicle part of the plant.  This is an oil that works for almost everything.  If you aren't sure what oil to use in a certain situation, use Lavender.  Lavender is a very calming oil and can be used on anyone from small children to the elderly.  It is great for burns, insomnia, sunburns, insect bites, headaches, cuts and scrapes, and rashes.  It is also very good for indigestion and anxiety (since we all have a little bit of that :)).  Lavender also has the ability to speed up cell growth.
Properties: antiseptic, diuretic, exporctorant, emmenagogue, antiparasitic, sedative, anti-inflammatory.

Black Pepper-
Black Pepper is an Essential oil that isn't used nearly enough by many people.  This is close to our favorite oil...ever... Black Pepper is extracted from the fruit of the Black Pepper tree.  Some of the physical benefits include reducing pain and bruising (especially with sprains and strains of the joints and muscles).  It is great for arthritis, aiding the nervous system, circulation, digestive system, menstral cramps, and headaches.  It also restores energy and helps your body to store sunshine.  (And let's face it, with winter approaching it could be a big help to those "winter blues" we all get because the sun goes into hiding.)  For those who suffer from fibromyalgia Black Pepper is a great oil to use (Use in an almond oil carrier oil).

For every essential oil there are extra emotional and spiritual benefits.  With Black Pepper those can include creating inner strength and freeing the mind from jealousy and negativity.
Properties:  analgesic, anti inflammatory, antispamodic, antiseptic, laxative, stimulant

Frankincense-
The value of this oil is not strictly limited to our day and time.  Out of all the gifts in the world to bring the infant Christ, the wisemen chose Frankincense as one of them.  Frankincense is extracted from the resin of the tree.  Frankincense has the ablility to keep away negative energy and hold positive energy around you.  It can also help you have a deeper understanding.  This essential oil is great for addiction as well as ADD and ADHD because it has the ability to cross the blood brain barrier.  Frankincense has the ability to strenthen the immune system, help with circulation problems, hemorrhoids, coughs, colds, depression, headaches, and nervous conditions.  It also helps with cravings (to things like soda, chocolate, dairy... ya know all those yummy not so great things).

These 3 oils are safe to be used on children as well as adults.  When using any Essential Oils make sure to use proper dilution in a carrier oil such as almond, apricot, avocado, or coconut oil.  Less is more when it comes to Essential Oils.  Really you only need 2-3 drops of essential oil even if you are covering a large area.  That means you need to use more carrier oil.  The carrier oil will act as a lubricant, spreading the essential oil farther.

Please make sure when you are using essential oils that you are using the highest quality theraputic grade.  Today you can walk into any health food store and see a vast array of so called organic essential oils.  Use caution when purchasing any essential oil making sure the proper (latin) name is always located somewhere on the bottle.

Our first choices of oil brands are Primavera and Shirley Price.  Both companies are based in Europe where the organic standard is much higher than the standard US purity scale.
