So I have this friend who has 2 sons under 2... ya she's pretty crazy and amazing all at the same time. She is also my go to family photographer (check out her work
here and find here on Facebook
here). Well said friend (Kati) text me a few days ago and said "miracle essential oil cure for..." I gave her my suggestions and we talked. Her 23 month old had Norovirus. Because of this lovely virus he got a nasty diaper rash. She text me and asked for another miracle fix. I suggested my home made diaper rash cream.
I have struggled with a diaper rash with J for a long time. Because of his food allergies any time he eats anything with dairy or soy it turns into an immediate diaper rash. I've had countless people give me recommendations but my grandmother told me to try corn starch and olive oil. It helped but didn't get rid of it all together. That's when I had a thought... ADD OILS!!! haha!
Some Essential Oils that help with diaper rash: Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Tea Tree, Niauli, Yarrow. You can put them in St. John's Wort carrier oil and rub directly on rash however I found something that works great for us.
Here is my recipe for my homemade diaper rash cream. I kid you not within 24 hours of application all rashes are gone or dramatically better (yes even rashes that come as a result from antibiotics).
Ingredients
Corn Starch
Olive oil
Lavender Essential Oil
Roman Chamomile Essential Oil (or Yarrow Essential Oil)
Directions
Combine enough corn starch and Olive Oil to make a paste. I usually make a large batch so it's about 1/2 cup corn starch and I eye ball the Olive Oil. Add 6 drops of Roman Chamomile and 10 drops of Lavender. Mix it together and put it in a container. I actually put it in an oil aquaphor tube I cleaned out so that I can mix it before using it. The Corn Starch and Olive Oil can separate Mix before apply. Also you can substitute the Roman Chamomile for Yarrow. I've found it to work equally as well.

My 20mo was suffering from a tummy bug that left her with a horrible rad and painful rash. After trying the usual diaper creams (which I hate to use because of their high toxicity rating)nothing was working so Katelyn shared her recipe with me.
ReplyDeleteI was unable to find the roman chamomile or yarrow oil locally, so I used coconut oil (because I love the smell), lavender and cornstarch as per her directions.
Within a few hours her rash was considerably better and she smelled great! Within a day it was gone and the mixture is so safe you could eat it and not worry.
I have even started using it on my hands because the cornstarch makes it feel almost like a 'dry oil'. My hands have never felt this smooth!
